Stopped in for a drink or two. Cocktails were delicious! We were there between lunch and dinner and the place was practically empty. Very nice staff, good atmosphere.

Had a great lunch: Carmelized Onions & Fontina Cheese grilled on sourdough bread. And for desert, Pavlova with fresh berries. Service also great. Weather was perfect so my group ate outside. Oxford is a peaceful, idyllic village full if century+ old clapboard houses. Well worth a visit

WHAT To Expect: hearty American (w/ a British angle!) tavern/pub cuisine, set in a wonderfully historic pre-Revolution functioning inn, in Oxford, along MD's eastern shore. WHY You Should Go: This resto represents lovely destination dining, if like us, you want to escape the hustle-bustle of the DC-metro area, explore a cute/quaint eastern shore town, and sample a rightfully-named local fave! For this year's Thanksgiving celebration, we were not disappointed on either the seafood/salmon or meat/beef tenderloin fronts. A slight delay with service (understandable because of the popularity of the place during Thanksgiving day festivities) was graciously acknowledged with complimentary glasses of prosecco (THANK YOU, Chef Salter and staff!) WHEN You Should Go: Year-round, to enjoy the quaintness, beauty, and hospitality of MD's eastern shore. We'll also be returning when the weather is a bit warmer, as a destination for one of our Moto-riding adventures!

Delicious beef tenderloin for dinner one night followed by an amazing brunch on Sunday. This place is worth every penny. Service is friendly and attentive without being stuffy. Can't wait to get back here.

Food was good to very good. Avacado fries were unique and tasty. Deep fried but still firm structure probably frozen 1st then fried, either way, well executed. Smoked Blue fish pate was also very good. Crab cake was good, ratio of lump to backfin could have been better. The chicken breast and confit leg was also good, porcini coating wasn't very noticeable, but mushroom essence was good in the sauce. Sticky toffee pudding was dangerously delicious. Service was off as Oxford recently had flooding and Tavern was busier than normal but 2 servers were not able to provide adequate/timely service, drinks especially, at the beginning it was like begging to get attention, but once we had her attention we ordered as much as we could at once not knowing how long things would taste. Our server could have handled things better despite the challenges. As the Tavern emptied out service response was better but still uneven. Tables went uncleaned around the dining area for long stretches. Long holiday weekend should been a time when staffing had better coverage and especially since the Tavern was one of the few places open locally due to the high water situation - all hands on deck mentality should have applied. All said, I would return.

Outstanding all around. The sirloin steak was amazing, the oyster pot pie was decadent, the double baked potato was fit for a Czar and the pecan pie should be ILLEGAL it was so good. The service was attentive, the atmosphere was charming. $100 flat for two entrees, dessert and a bottle of lovely sparkling wine. Do yourself a favor.

Salter's Tap Room and Tavern sits comfortably in the heart of historic Oxford, Maryland, offering a distinct blend of hearty American tavern fare with subtle British influences. This pre-Revolution inn, steeped in history, echoes the charm of its century-old clapboard surroundings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements its thoughtfully crafted menu.

The culinary highlights are both familiar and inventive. Dishes like the caramelized onion and fontina cheese grilled on sourdough reveal a mastery of simple ingredients elevated by expert preparation. The avocado fries stand out for their unique texture—crispy on the outside, firm and fresh within. The smoked bluefish pâté and crab cakes celebrate the Eastern Shore’s seafood heritage, although some patrons note room for refinement in crab meat composition.

Seasonal specials such as the beef tenderloin and wild salmon showcase the kitchen’s ability to deliver robust, satisfying flavors. The sticky toffee pudding serves as a decadent finish, rich and dangerously indulgent. Cocktails are carefully mixed, providing a perfect complement to the food and enhancing the relaxed tavern vibe.

Service receives mixed notes, especially during busy periods tied to local events or weather disruptions. Yet, the staff’s genuine hospitality shines through, with thoughtful gestures like complimentary prosecco smoothing occasional delays. Dining al fresco adds another layer of enjoyment, allowing guests to soak in Oxford's peaceful charm.

Overall, Salter's Tap Room and Tavern stands as a destination restaurant that rewards diners seeking a taste of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, combining historic ambiance with compelling, well-executed dishes. For those escaping city life or exploring quaint coastal towns, it promises a memorable meal grounded in tradition and local flavors.
